Art and Culture in and Around Buckhead

Our hotel is near Buckhead Theatre and so much more

With a history that traverses the Civil War through the Civil Rights Movement and into the 21st century, and a metro population that now stands at close to 6 million, Atlanta has become a bastion of world-class art and culture. The Atlanta History Center in Buckhead is one example. Less than a mile from Kimpton Sylvan Hotel, this 33-acre destination is home to captivating gardens, a museum, a farm, two historic homes and the world’s largest oil painting: a cyclorama depicting the Battle of Atlanta. Around the corner from the hotel you’ll find Buckhead Theatre and Chastain Park Amphitheatre, both intimate venues showcasing a variety of musical genres. Aficionados of visual art will love perusing the galleries of Bennett StreetMiami Circle and Buckhead Village.

Because Buckhead is north-central within Atlanta, it’s accessible to the metro area’s countless creative and historic outlets. Discover classic and contemporary art at the High MuseumMODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) and the fashion museum SCAD FASH. (Be on the lookout for Tiny Doors ATL, an art installation of colorful 7-inch doors all around the city.) Performing arts thrive at Midtown’s opulent Fox Theatre, Alliance Theatre and Atlanta Symphony Hall.

Don’t miss a visit to The King Center, honoring the life and legacy of Atlanta native son Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Not far from The King Center is The Carter Center, the only presidential library in the Southeast, featuring a replica of the Oval Office. Fans of Gone With the Wind can tour the Margaret Mitchell House, where the author penned the Pulitzer Prize winning novel.
